Interiors shaped by light and daily life

We rework interiors for Toronto homes and small commercial spaces — kitchens, additions, whole floors — around natural light, honest materials and how you actually use a room.

Interior architecture

We plan the whole room, not just finishes

Interior architecture at Atelier North goes beyond finishes — it resets layout, light and structure to suit how a space is actually used.

Our interior architecture work spans kitchen and bathroom reconfigurations, whole-floor replans, built-in millwork and material palettes — for Toronto homeowners refitting a house they already love, and developers preparing a unit or office for occupancy.

It can stand on its own or sit inside a larger renovation, addition or new build.

Our process

From first visit to finished room

Every interior project moves through the same stages, paced to the scope of the work.

  1. Step 1

    Enquiry and site visit

We walk the space with you, talk through how you use each room and the problems you want solved, then confirm whether the project is a fit for the studio.

    Confirm scope and next steps

  2. An architect and client reviewing a concept plan spread across a table in a Toronto studio
    Step 2

    Concept design

We study light, circulation and structure, then present plans, sections and material directions that reset the room around how you live or work.

Review and refine the concept together

  3. Step 3

    Design development

Approved concepts become detailed drawings — millwork, finishes, lighting and fixtures — coordinated with any structural or mechanical requirements.

  4. Step 4

    Permit and tender drawings

We prepare the drawing set for permit application and issue it to contractors for pricing, answering questions through the bid process.

  5. An architect checking a built-in millwork installation on site during construction in a Toronto home
    Step 5

    Construction review

We visit site through construction to review the work against the drawings and resolve details as they come up, so the finished room matches the design.

Questions

Questions about interior architecture

What homeowners and developers in Toronto ask before starting a project with us.

What counts as interior architecture versus a renovation?

Interior architecture focuses on the space itself — layout, light, millwork and finishes — often without changing a building's footprint. It can stand alone or sit inside a larger renovation or addition.

Do you work on single rooms or whole floors?

Both. We take on kitchen and bathroom reworks as well as whole-floor replans for houses and small commercial units.

Do you work with developers as well as homeowners?

Yes. We design interiors for homeowners reworking a house they live in, and for developers preparing units or small commercial spaces for occupancy.

Are you licensed to practise in Ontario?

Yes. Atelier North Architects is licensed by the Ontario Association of Architects.

What areas do you serve?

We work across Toronto.

How do fees work?

Fees depend on the size and complexity of the project. We discuss scope and fees once we understand what the space needs.

Do you handle permit drawings?

Yes. We prepare the drawing set needed for permit application and for contractor tender.
