FAQ
Questions before we begin
Answers for homeowners and developers considering a project with Atelier North Architects.
Before you commission us
Answers, before you begin
The questions we hear most from homeowners and developers in Toronto.
How does a project begin?
We start with a conversation about your site, your ambitions and how you live or intend to use the space. From there we prepare a proposal scoped to your project before any design work begins.
What kinds of projects does Atelier North design?
Custom homes, renovations and additions, interior architecture, and small commercial spaces, each designed around natural light, honest materials and how people actually use a space.
Do you work with homeowners and developers?
Yes. We design for homeowners building or renovating a single property and for developers working across several.
Where do you practise?
Toronto. Our studio is on Queen Street East and our projects are sited across the city.
Is Atelier North a licensed studio?
Yes. We are licensed by the Ontario Association of Architects.
Has your work been recognized?
We received the Toronto Urban Design Award in 2022.
How long does a project take?
Timelines depend on the scope of the work, from a single room to a new house. We set out a schedule specific to your project once we understand its full scope.
Who handles the building permit?
We prepare the drawings your project needs for a building permit application and guide you through the City of Toronto's approvals process.
What does interior architecture cover?
The design of interior spaces: layout, materials, light and built-in elements, whether as part of a larger renovation or on its own.
How do we check availability for a new project?
